The Great Whitchurch Treasure Hunt – Easter Weekend April 2021
The Community Live Events Team will be handing out free Hunt Sheets by the Town Square between midday and 2pm on Saturday 3rd April.
This weekend brings the Great Whitchurch Treasure Hunt and you have until 7pm Easter Monday to find clues, decipher and hunt for the treasure.
We will be on hand to help out over the weekend and there will be Easter Egg prizes on offer, with a prize draw for those that manage to find and picture the Treasure.
Fun for all the family – more info will follow later this week!

COVID hits LOCAL BUS SERVICES
Stagecoach South has advised that they have been forced to reduce their bus services in the area due to increased numbers of staff being affected with sickness and in isolation. As a result, the 76 bus that serves Whitchurch has been reduced to just one per hour on the Andover – Whitchurch – Basingstoke route.
There is also no service on Friday 1st January 2021.
Stagecoach will issue further updates in due course to confirm service levels for Saturday 2nd January and from Monday 4th January 2021. If the availability of drivers improves, they will review and look to reinstate journeys. The meadow alongside the Fulling Mill footpath has seen a flurry of activity in recent weeks. You may have read Lucie Maitland’s report of the finds made by a group of local metal detectorists just a couple of weeks ago, together with photos of the artefacts unearthed that revealed activity from the Romano/Saxon period, the visitation of troops during the English Civil War and a Napoleonic coin.
This week saw activity of a different kind as a small group of Walkers are Welcome volunteers joined forces with Lucie to improve the biodiversity and pollination of the meadow.
A couple of hours was spent digging over the last remaining strip of nettles to prepare the meadow seedbed for sowing sainfoin and red clover later this week.
Lucie said, “Hopefully, this “pollinator patch” that lies opposite to the footpath will provide a pleasing swathe of colour for passing walkers as well as helping pollinators. It was hard work, but very productive and gratefully received, not least as the volunteers all chose to donate their payment to local charities”.

Machetes no longer necessary on the Southfield Farm Track!
This morning a small group of Walkers are Welcome volunteers together with the Hampshire North Community Ranger completed the vegetation cutting along the Southfield Farm track and installed a fingerpost indicating the route of the Public Right of Way….. please DO NOT walk the field margin, that is private agricultural land.
It was hard work and hot work working with just hand tools, but I’m sure you will agree that it’s a job well done.
Our thanks again to the volunteers (and rangers) who help to keep our footpaths open.
