Local Election Update – Candidates and More
The local elections to be held on Thursday 6th May will be combined elections where you will select your new Borough Councillors, your Hampshire County Councillor and your new Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire.
Basingstoke & Deane – New Ward Boundaries
Following a review by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) new ward boundaries come into effect at the next borough elections on 6 May 2021. The Commission’s final recommendations propose that Basingstoke and Deane should be represented by 54 borough councillors in the future: six fewer than the current arrangement. The recommendations also propose that those councillors should represent eighteen three-councillor wards across the borough.
What this means for you: Each resident eligible to vote will have three votes available to them to elect three candidates to fill the three posts allocated to the new ward of Whitchurch, Overton & Laverstoke Ward. You cannot cast more than one vote for an individual candidate.
