Andover Heritage Day – Guildhall 200 Help us celebrate the 200th anniversary of Andover’s Grade II* Regency Guildhall, which will be open to the public from 10am to 3pm; built in 1825, the Guildhall has splendid Georgian architecture on the exterior and an equally impressive interior.
Guildhall displays will include an exhibition of artwork of the building by local children and alongside this will be a “Look Up” Trail around the town centre featuring some of the beautiful architectural features of the town centre.
As part of the “Second Sundays” market there will be some heritage crafts activities to try and displays from Andover Museum. There will also be a small exhibition of work about the history of Andover by Harroway School displayed in the old O2 shop in The Chantry Centre.
Parking is available at the Chantry Centre multi-storey car park and at George Yard car park. All town centre car parks are free to park on Sundays.

Whitchurch Walkers are Welcome were delighted when they were approached to participate in the pilot episode for a series of podcasts entitled âChoir Walksâ, a new initiative of ex. TV Producer Sarah Dean, featuring attractive walking trails with âhidden churchesâ that have interesting stories to tell.
The idea for âChoir Walksâ had actually come from Sarah’s Dad who is a very active amateur singer and choir director, âitâs really his passion for this sort of music, and his idea of doing walks to âhiddenâ churches that started it all â I am an ex-TV producer, so my job has always been to identify stories that might be interesting to others, and I knew that when he mentioned it, it could be a good approach for a podcast. So here we areâ!
This pilot episode was recorded on a bright autumn day along the popular Whitchurch Mill Trail and was led by Wendy Helsby one of our local WaW footpath volunteers, walk leader and member of the Whitchurch History Society and the choral singing was recorded in the lovely 13th century St. Nicholas Church Freefolk, now looked after by the Churches Conservation Trust.

Many of our residents will recall the time when our small North Hampshire market town was well served by public transport, boasting two railway lines and rather more buses than we have today.
As part of our communityâs contribution to the national Railway 200 celebrations, Whitchurch History Society would like to share some of those memories and have delved into their photo archive to produce this exhibition, with an introduction written by former Chairman John Mariner who had a lifelong passion for rail travel.
The exhibition celebrates the story of both of the town’s stations; Whitchurch Station on the busy West of England line and Whitchurch Town Station on the former, much-lamented Didcot-Newbury-Southampton line… remembering a time when you could still travel by rail to Newbury and Winchester.
This is also another chance to see the lovely steam train artwork produced by the children at the Montessori Nursery who have been learning about the history of the DNSR line.
Sally Mariner has kindly donated magazines and railway books to the exhibition, that were collected by her husband John over the past 50 years. For anyone interested in railways and steam engines these are an excellent read and any donations received will go to support Whitchurch in Bloomâs continuing work at Whitchurch Railway Station.

PROBUS is a national organisation, composed of autonomous Clubs for retired professionals and businessmen. The purpose is to provide and promote a forum for social meetings and activities. The PROBUS Club of Whitchurch was established in 1986, and its activities are centred on a monthly luncheon meeting, preceded by discussion, and a brief presentation on topics of interest to its target membership. In addition, a number of social events are held throughout the year.
Currently the Club meets on the second Monday of each month at the White Hart Hotel in Whitchurch, usually starting at 12.00 noon with lunch served at 1.00pm. The next luncheon meeting will be held on 10 February.
The Club would welcome new members. There is a small annual membership fee, and for a âtasterâ we would welcome prospective new members at a monthly luncheon â free of charge !!

Team Whitchurch in Bloom are delighted to share some exciting news with you. As you know, in 2024 Whitchurch in Bloom won âSmall Townâ best in their category at the South & South East of England RHS in Bloom awards….. we were thrilled!
Britain in Bloom then selects some of their category winners to go forward to enter the âBritain in Bloomâ awards ⊠they have only gone and invited us for 2025 eek!!
This will mean two separate judging days and extra work! We will need lots of help, so are hoping for more volunteers to come forward….. watch this space!

Fancy getting fitter whilst enjoying relaxed company in the North Hampshire Countryside?
On Monday evenings between April and September (except bank holidays) the Whitchurch Rambling Club meets at 7pm at the Bell Street car park in Whitchurch and sets off for a walk either in the environs of Whitchurch, or further afield with a drive to the starting point.
New members are always welcome.
Well behaved dogs are also welcome.
Membership is just ÂŁ2 for the season.

Hampshire Countryside Access have advised that footpath 9 from Kings Walk to Chatter Lane will be closed from the 22nd December to the 31st January for urgent repairs to the Jerusalem Arch.

Whitchurch Association Trustees would like to inform residents and visitors that the Winchester Street car park alongside the Silk Mill will be closed on Monday 20th Jan 2025 between 9am and 4pm, to enable Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council to complete essential tree work on their land behind the Gill Nethercott Centre.
Any cars left overnight will need to be removed before 09.00 as a chipping machine will be in operation in the access road to/from the car park throughout the day.
Access will remain open to people on foot wishing to use the centre/Silk Mill; there will be banksmen in place whilst the chipper is in operation.
This essential tree and groundwork is necessary to comply with the requirements of the management plan that was a condition of the original planning permission for the Gill Nethercott Centre and meets with Natural England requirements for conserving the SSSI habitats.
