Whitchurch Cricket Club match report: 13.07.2020
Parsonage Meadow was a picture for the first game of this curtailed season. Over 60 spectators had taken the opportunity to enjoy the sun and the beautiful surroundings of the Meadow. WCC opponents were Oakley 2 XI.
Oakley batted first and struggled to make headway against a fiery Whitchurch attack. Their low score of 61 all out (Steve Munday taking 4 wickets for 3 runs) was never going to be enough.
Whitchurch lost early wickets, but a fine stand between Martyn and Sam Dancer saw the home side to victory by 5 wickets.
Because of the current restrictions, the Hampshire Cricket League has cancelled this year’s fixtures. WCC has decided to play on Saturdays in the local North Hants Vector Cup, which contains sides around our area. The fixtures are shown here:
On Thursday 16th July at 6pm, Whitchurch Cricket Club (WCC) will host a welcome return to recreational cricket with a cup match against Hampshire Hospitals NHS Cricket Team.
It is an opportunity for us to recognise the amazing work and contribution of the NHS over recent months and we hope that this will become an annual fixture.”
Spectators are encouraged to come along to Parsonage Meadow to show their support for not only the players but the NHS, social distancing measures will be in place in line with England and Wales Cricket Board Guidance. For more details please consult the events page on this website.
