Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust are delighted to announce that they will be bringing their Watercress & Winterbournes ‘Tales of the Riverbank’ Photography Exhibition to the Gill Nethercott Centre, Whitchurch between the 1st February and the 29th April.

View some amazing entries, enjoy the magic of our chalk streams captured on camera and read the inspiring stories behind them.

Winter Lights Launch at the Silk Mill

Whitchurch Silk Mill will be launching the 2022 Winter Lights events this year with even more excitement thanks to additional entertainment from Glow performer Nick Cook and cocktails from local producer antscockys.

Nick’s performances will fill the night sky with beautiful colours and amazing patterns to enchant you, and amaze you with his juggling, staff and poi skills. He will also transform into a 9ft robot to meet and greet everyone, make sure you have your camera ready!

The first performance will be at 4:30pm with the stilted robot beginning his travels at 5:30pm and the final show of the evening at 7pm. All free with admission, buy your tickets in advance here to make use of the quick access entrance.

Star Count 2022: save the date! 26th Feb – 6th Mar

Star Count 2022: save the date! Get together with family and friends for the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England’s (CPRE) annual Star Count which takes place between 26 February and 6 March. We were thrilled that so many of you took part in Star Count last year and hope you’ll join us again to count the stars and map the nation’s view of the sky this year. With your help, we’ll be able to identify where light pollution is a problem and where the darkest skies across the country are.

We’ll use this evidence to advocate for better-controlled lighting and offer advice about what we can all do to reduce local light pollution. The best thing is that it’s so easy to take part – you can do your Star Count from your garden, balcony, doorstep or even bedroom window! It’s also a great way to switch off from the distractions of daily life and give your mental health a boost by reconnecting with nature. Filled with an array of fun activities ideal for kids ages 5 and up, and a checklist to help you to spot as many stars as possible, it’s a great way to explore stargazing as a family. Winter Lights at Whitchurch Silk Mill

After the success of our Winter Lights show in 2020, we are excited to be bringing it back and lighting up with Mill in new and exciting ways! Every day 4pm to 9pm

The Team from Zeal Live have created a magical illuminated walk weaving through the Mill and gardens, as light displays transport you through time to the earliest days of the Mill. Inside the Mill, the historic machinery will be lit with displays of light representing patterns and swirling fabrics as our weavers weave silk on historic looms. Outside on Frog Island, where two branches of the River Test flow into one, light and classical music will wash over the Mill, the gardens and the tree-lined river banks, and the river will reflect the light.

If this wasn’t enough, we will have a number of special events happening throughout the 10 day experience which will include:

Our launch event with Glow performer Nick Cook, who along with his robot stilt walker, will provide a spectacular show full of circus tricks sure to provide the wow-factor.

A special celebration of Chinese New Year on 1st February with a performance from the Lion Dance UK team in the Mill grounds.

Sensory light activities and a quiet night for those that prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.
