To mark the start of the Easter holidays, we will be opening on Monday 3rd April for our Easter Egg hunt.

Explore the Mill grounds in search of the missing chocolates left by the Easter bunny!

Each child will receive a bag to collect their chocolate and they will have 13 letters (chocolates) to find. You can arrive at any time during the event (10.30 – 12.00).

Booking is only required for children participating in the event. The egg hunt will take place in the gardens and ground floor of the Mill; should you wish to visit the rest of the Mill, admission charges apply.

Throughout their long history, our chalk streams have attracted people with their beauty and bounty. As settlements sprang up along their banks, many parts came into the care of private owners. As a result of this, some stretches of stream are closed to the public for safety or privacy reasons. Others are hidden in a different way: accessible, but not widely appreciated or understood. The Open Chalk Streams project aims to change that, by creating new ways to experience these places.

On special days each year, you can visit spaces that are normally off-limits – all as part of the Watercress and Winterbournes Landscape Partnership Scheme. Tufton – The River Test Join us for a guided walk around a piece of private land that has been turned into a wildlife haven. We’ll start our walk at a local church to hear the history of the Anglo-Saxon settlement, before walking through fields and along the stream bank to see what the landowners have achieved with their passion for wildlife.

See the impact of improvements like tree planting, log piles, wildflower planting, selective grazing with sheep, and wildlife ponds. We’ll also look at some of the chalk stream’s wildlife up close. The walk will be led by the landowners, possibly accompanied by their friendly dog!

This event is part of Open Chalk Streams, a project within the Watercress and Winterbournes Landscape Partnership Scheme. We’re protecting, enhancing, and celebrating the Rivers Test and Itchen headwaters.

Hurstbourne Priors – The Bourne Rivulet Explore a stretch of truly wild chalk stream, which was recently restored by experts at Wild Troust Trust. Learn about the site’s ecology, why and how the restoration was performed, and what the future might look like for this special place.
