The unique British climate enables UK gardeners to grow many more plants than the limited number of native species that our islands were left with at the end of the last ice age. And with so many plants being brought to these shores, from all round the world, we now benefit from a wealth of species to grow in our plots. But with climatic and soil conditions varying so widely in their point of origin, many such plants will perform better if their specific needs are catered for as David Hurrion reveals.
