Whitchurch Open Gardens is a biennial event where private gardens in Whitchurch open their gates to the public. This event raises funds for Whitchurch Silk Mill, supporting the preservation of silk weaving. Visitors can enjoy beautiful gardens, refreshments, and plant sales while exploring the town.

Among the standout features of this year’s programme are several new gardens opening for the first time, including The Chase on Church Street, which offers a stunning view of All Hallows Church and returning this year, is the beautiful garden at 2 Church Cottages in Tufton, a former favourite of the National Garden Scheme that hasn’t opened to the public in many years.

Plant lovers will find plenty to admire, with a selection of unusual and striking specimens on display. Highlights include a Ginkgo tree, known for its distinctive fan-shaped leaves and status as a living fossil, and the dramatic flowering Dragon Lily, whose bold appearance is sure to captivate visitors.

Many of the gardens will also be serving homemade cakes, scones, and refreshments, adding a delicious touch to a day spent exploring the town’s beauty.
