As part of our celebrations for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Whitchurch Conservation Group is excited to announce that it will be hosting a FREE live music event – ‘Music in the Meadow’ – on Sunday 5th June (11am – 4pm) at the Millennium Meadow in Whitchurch.
Held with kind permission from the Whitchurch Millennium Green Trust, this free open-air concert from 11am to 4pm will feature a ‘Proms in the Park’ style performance on stage from the Nova Foresta Classical Players orchestra who will play a selection of popular music culminating in a rousing climax with the playing of traditional favourites including Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia.
Whitchurch Folk Club and the Whitchurch Singing for Fun Choir will also be performing.
There will be children’s activities throughout the day from Basingstoke- based Anvil Arts The Musication Station and Proteus Theatre / Scratchbuilt Shed of Stories.

Good Festival is looking to raise a mighty £200,000 to purchase a state of the art AI (artificial intelligence) machine for intervention radiology. This machine allows minimally invasive, image guided procedures to target tumour ablation treatments in the abdominal regions (lungs, kidneys & liver). With only two of these machines in the entire UK, this machine would be cutting edge technology in cancer treatment for The Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

National Garden Scheme – Open Gardens 2022 at Bere Mill
The wonderful gardens at Bere Mill, Whitchurch are opening again for 2022 through the National Garden’s Scheme (NGS).
There are over five acres to explore where formal planting meets the wild with beautiful herbaceous borders, bog garden and Mediterranean gravel gardens with cistus, lavenders and tree peonies. Sunday 13th March Monday 2nd May Thursday 2nd June Monday 29th August Pre-booking is available at the NGS website – Search for Bere Mill on the NGS website ngs.org.uk or pay on the day.
Tickets cost £7.50 for adults and children are free (dogs also welcome!) All proceeds go to charity.
Thanks to the generosity of garden owners, volunteers and visitors, NGS have donated over £60 million to nursing and health charities and made an annual donation of £2.88 million in 2020 to beneficiaries including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen’s Nursing Institute. From remote, rolling downland to picture postcard villages the North Wessex Downs are truly special. Undoubtedly among Britain’s most beautiful landscapes, they are somewhere to be treasured, protected and enjoyed. Straddling four counties and often unheralded, this is an area united by a single factor – chalk.
With 28 walks on offer across the length and breadth of the North Wessex Downs our festival is a celebration of the stunning landscapes, gorgeous scenery and top-class walking country that the AONB has to offer.
We have opportunities for you to seek out wildlife, history or culture, visit a farm, follow an accessible trail, picnic with the family, improve your navigation skills or simply to soak up the views from the top of the downs.
Many of the walks are free.
