Bin the Incinerator 1Opposition to the massive Incinerator just 3.5 miles from Whitchurch is growing.

At last night’s (Monday 4th Nov) Whitchurch Town Council Meeting Councillors passed the proposal that:

Whitchurch Town Council opposes a waste to energy incineration and processing plant at the Harewood A303 Enviropark, Barton Stacey.

Meanwhile the leader of Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council has also expressed opposition following discussions. Whitchurch Borough Cllr David George who “has been working with BDBC and other community groups with regard to the proposed Wheelabrator Incinerator” has passed on this message from Cllr Rhatigan:

“…the proposals are unsupportable and that as Consultees we would lobby to that effect.
The communities of Whitchurch, Hurstbourne Priors, St Mary Bourne , and as far as Overton , need protecting and the Administration will stand behind them in their endeavours to rid themselves of the shadow that this proposal casts.”

This Saturday (November 9th), a Drop-in session is being held at the Town Hall from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Local volunteers and representatives from the Keep Test Valley Beautiful group will be on hand to assist local people in understanding Wheelabrator’s planning proposal
