Basingstoke and Deane CrestThe Council that provides Whitchurch with many of its services ranging from Refuse Collection and Ground Maintenance to Housing and Parking, may now be on the verge of change.

In a Basingstoke & Deane by-election at Bramley & Sherfield yesterday (10th October) the Conservatives lost their seat when their support was taken by the Independent vote. There is now no overall control.

One follower said:
“this could have the Conservatives having much difficulty in getting their budget plans for next year approved.”

Large swing away from Conservatives
The new Borough Councillor is Independent Chris Tomblin who received 800 votes (57% of votes cast) to the Conservative’s 449 (32%).
The Conservative share fell by 22% since the last election in 2016.

Whitchurch Borough Councillors
The next election for Borough Council representatives for Whitchurch is in 2020. The seats are presently held by Cllr Chloe Ashfield (Lab) and Cllr David George (Con).

Whitchurch Town Council
Meanwhile there is a possible Town Council election in Whitchurch on 14th November 2019 for which nominations for one vacant seat are presently open.
