SUMMARY:Ethereal Folk Singer Emily Portman & Friends "Dominion Of Spells" at Whitchurch Folk Club
DESCRIPTION:Into the Dominion of Spells: Songs of Midlife\, Myth and Wonder \nAward-winning folk singer and songwriter Emily Portman and friends take to the road this September\, performing material from her acclaimed new album Dominion of Spells\, alongside songs from across her celebrated catalogue. \nDominion of Spells charts a heroine’s midlife journey through dark woods in search of wonder. Drawing on ballads and folktales\, Portman weaves lived experience with rich mythic imagery\, exploring motherhood\, burnout\, mental health\, misogyny\, creativity and transformation. \nThe title derives from a phrase coined by William Harvey\, physician to King James I\, rooted in the ancient belief that women’s ‘wandering wombs’ moved around their bodies\, causing illness\, hysteria\, and witchcraft. Portman transforms it: her Dominion of Spells is a realm of wonder\, equality\, and liberation\, where women’s pain is believed\, their bodies understood\, and their voices heard. \nFolk traditions have always carried stories untold by official history. These songs stand in that lineage\, telling of women’s inner lives\, dreams and desires— as artists\, as mothers\, and wanderers in dark woods. \nTickets £20       Concessionaries £15 \nBook Tickets via this link

The propagation and other tunnels can be hot.\nPlease bring a water bottle if it is a hot day.\nOur potting shed is the summer home to returning swallows who will be flying around.\nWe will try and accommodate dietary needs e.g. gluten and dairy free but need to know 10 days in advance of the tour.\nWe cannot guarantee an allergen free environment. If you have a food allergy please let us know and bring your own snack.\nWe have 3 toilets on site\, 1 of which is adapted and fully accessible\n\nPlease note we are not a Garden Centre and do not have a tearoom or lunch facilities on-site but can recommend some great spots for lunch or coffee which are local to us.
