SUMMARY:My Austen Heritage – Growing up at Chawton House – FREE TALK
DESCRIPTION:Experience life as an Austen descendant through the personal memories of Caroline Jane Knight\, Jane Austen’s fifth great-niece. \nThrough memories\, family traditions\, history and photos from the family album\, Caroline invites you into her extraordinary childhood within the halls that Jane knew so well.\nFrom attending the village school to helping her father tend the historic grounds\, cooking alongside her grandmother\, eating from the same Wedgwood dinner set as Jane and sleeping beneath the 1783 William Welling silhouette commemorating her 4th great grandfather Edward Austen’s selection as the Knight family heir\, Caroline’s memories paint a vivid picture of growing up in the heart of literary history. \nDiscover how working in the Chawton House tearoom as a teenager brought Caroline into conversation with Austen enthusiasts from around the world all summer long\, and how family stories of Jane’s independence\, determination\, and wit shaped Caroline’s own path. She shares the poignant end of her family’s 400-year life at Chawton House and how this extraordinary heritage continues to influence her work today—creating The Austen Knights of Chawton – A Family Archive\, leading the Jane Austen Literacy Foundation\, serving as Patron of Jane Austen Regency Week\, sharing her unique connection to Jane Austen with audiences and readers worldwide as Jane Austen’s Niece\, and through her memoir Jane & Me: My Austen Heritage. \nThis personal journey through memories and family stories offers perspectives that exist nowhere else—a window into Jane’s world through the eyes of her family. \nTo reserve your FREE ticket\, follow this link.
