You need to be a member of Whitchurch LETS in order to access all areas of this site.
What is LETS?
LETS stands for 'Local Exchange Trading System.' It is a not-for-profit method of trading goods and services locally without the need for printed currency. Instead a notional currency called 'threads' is used. Direct swaps do not need to be made - threads can be earned from one individual and spent with another. It is therefore a more sophisticated form of bartering.
What are the benefits of joining LETS?
Members can save money, increase their purchase power and by assembling a working party they can get big jobs done quickly. LETS schemes help to revitalise communities as people make new contacts and access resources in their own area.
How does it work?
Members of the group advertise services and goods on offer and those that they want. Temporary offers and requests are made through the listings section at the bottom of the page. Goods and services that are always on offer are found in the list of services. To get an idea of the kind of things on offer anyone is free to browse the list of services by clicking on the link at the top right hand corner of this page.
As a general rule, 1 hour of any member's time is equivalent to 12 threads. Where necessary, expenses can be charged in sterling alongside this, for example to cover the cost of materials. There can be negotiation between members before a commitment is made. Members can trade as much or as little as they wish, with no obligation to accept requests for help. It is perfectly acceptable to be in negative numbers and to get further into debt in order to get a job done.

How do I join the group?
Send a message to lets@whitchurch.org.uk. You will be asked to complete an application form and accept a membership agreement. You will also need to be registered with whitchurch.org.uk if you aren't already. Once your application form has been returned you will be added to the group and you can start trading.
