The town of Whitchurch has been the hub of Thomas family life since we decided to hop across the downs from the village of Kingsclere some 22 years ago with a collie, two year old toddler in tow and another on the way.

It did not take us long to realise the town was very fortunate in having a strong and and active community base, which for us centred around the local schools, church, shops, library, pubs, community halls and allotments. Not to mention the valued green spaces, wonderful walks, runs and cycle routes right on our doorstep.

It was a great honour to be elected town councillor and then deputy mayor in May 2012. Working alongside our current mayor Cllr Jackie Day, I have relished the challenges and enjoyed working alongside other councillors who willingly offer up their spare time for the benefit of the community. I also recognise and applaud the efforts of other volunteers in the town and their invaluable contribution to the community.

It is with some regret that I have decided not to be nominated for Mayor due to work and personal commitments which I feel may have compromised my Town Council duties and responsibilities.
I wish the newly elected Mayor every success for 2013.

Cllr Linda Thomas
Deputy Mayor 2012 – 2013
