Local skater Hannah Rahman has had a busy summer: She competed for the Basingstoke figure skating team in the National Team Challenge where Basingstoke won the team challenge for the second year in a row.
Hannah recently returned from the Hull IJS competition where some of the top novices and juniors from Great Britain skated and was officiated by judges at international standard.
The 13 year old of Kingsley Park, Whitchurch, skated at junior level (ages upto 19 years) – she came 2nd in the short programme and 4th in the long programme. Hannah is ranked 12th at the junior level in the United Kingdom.
Hannah is training to compete at the British open in November and has been picked to represent Great Britain in Austria at a European junior event later this year.
Hannah said, “I am really looking forward to the competition. I went last year and hope to do better this year. This year, I did the Mont Blanc trophy in Italy and the juniors at Hull. My mum and dad bought me nice presents – beautiful dresses to wear at the competition.”
Have we a future winter Olympic champion in our town?
