Two keen Whitchurch youngsters jumped on their bikes on Sunday to ride a terrific 110 km in aid of two good causes.
They are raising funds for:
• Resurfacing the cycle track at their club, Welwyn Wheelers, and
• Ride for Charlie – in memory of 15-year-old cyclist Charlie Craig who tragically died in his sleep.
Dan and Ellen Phillips covered the undulating Hampshire route along with their Dad Dave, averaging a very creditable 25km per hour. On a day with a blustery wind they headed down the Test valley from Whitchurch to Stockbridge, then headed east to Winchester and Alresford before returning to Whitchurch to complete the ride just as it started to rain.
The young riders are both keen competitors in cycle racing with a promising future, having very recently returned from a youth cycling week at Assen in Holland where they took on riders from across Europe where Dan finished 8th and Ellen 34th overall.

It was a brilliant ride by Dan and Ellen. Well done (and to Dad too!)
