This Saturday afternoon could see Whitchurch Utd moving into top place in the Wessex Sydenham League Division One, as they take on Stockbridge at the Longmeadow Ground, with a 3pm kick off.

In Tuesday’s match against Fleet Spurs the Jam Boys were a goal down at half time after a battling game. After the break Paul Coventry was brought on as subsitute for Ashley Childs, and within a couple of mninutes the ball was in the back of the Fleet team’s net. Luke Walker clinched the win for Whitchurch with the second, in what was a tough game in tough conditions.

The win puts Whirtchurch just one points behind League leaders Cowes Sports, and a win on Saturday could potentially see them at the top of the leader board. Stockbridge are presently in 11th spot. Cowes Sports who also have a game in hand over Whitchurch are away to the team United beat on Tuesday, Fleet Spurs, who are in 9th place.
Meanwhile in 3rd place, two points behind Whitchurch, are Brockenhurst although they have three games in hand.
The League’s race for the champion’s place is certainly hotting up.

The tremendous run of success by the Whitchurch team has led to them being awarded the February Team of the Month Award by the Wessex Sydenham’s League.
A presentation will be made before the game against Stockbridge.
The afternoon is one not to be missed at the Whitchurch Football Ground.
