Whitchurch United’s 1st team travelled to Moneyfields ground at Portsmouth in what was expected to be a difficult match, but following their 5 – 0 win at home on Tuesday their confidence had been boosted.
On a warm afternoon with a pitch in good condition Curtis Angel put United ahead at around 25 minutes. Both teams had their chances but neither could finish and at half time the visiting team stayed ahead by that single goal.
Out for the second half and again chances were missed with players on both sides frustrated by some of the decisions. Following a foul against Monetyfield a little over half way through the second half, United’s keeper Tommy Hindmarsh saved what could have been the equalising goal.
Whitchurch were again under pressure but the defenders ensured that at the final whistle the score remained Whitchurch United 1 – Moneyfields 0, which fairly reflected the afternoon’s match.
Whitchurch are now in 10th place in the Wessex League Premier Division, the the next League fixture being at home against Brockenhurst on Saturday 5th October.
