Whitchurch United are ready to take on Gloucester City AFC at the Longmeadow ground in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. Having progressed this far in the prestigious competition they now meet the semi-professional team from the Blue Square Bet North League.
The Jam Boys who play in the second tier of the Wessex League will be the underdogs, which may work to their advantage giving the visiting Tigers a false sense of security.
The ground is in good condition and the weather forecast is excellent so it is hoped a good crowd will come out to support and cheer on the home side.
Whitchurch could win…
Gloucester do not have a good Cup record in this area and their last games have not been that impressive, having drawn 3 and lost 3 of their last six matches, so the fixture has the signs of a possible giant-killing by Jim Macey’s Whitchurch squad.
Gloucester fans to be made welcome…
Gloucester will be bringing at least one coach of fans for the game, who of course will be made most welcome, and it is hoped they have a safe and pleasant journey here.
Of course they may not be so happy on their return trip!
As well as the glamour of the Cup and the satisfaction of success, the winning teams in this round take £4500 from the FA’s Prize Fund.
Should Whitchurch win this weekend there would be another 9 rounds to win before the hallowed turf of Wembley could be reached. The Dream lives on!
