The season starts
Defending champions WSSC started off the season with a good 7-2 win away to The Hairy Potter and the Half Cut Prince (Prince Regent) although the match was closer than the result shows. After captain Rob Minall (WSSC) won the opening frame Alan Phippen (WSSC) then narrowly beat last year’s “most singles wins” winner Kevin Birks (Hairy Potters) on the black ball. The Potters never recovered from this start despite several chances and only got there first point on the board in game 6.
A flying start
Last year’s runners up and KO cup winners Southampton Arms (Andover) also got off to a flying start despite having missing last year’s Singles KO winner Craig Rees and John Heredge who partnered Craig to the Pairs KO title. They also took a 5 nil lead against The Old House at Home (Overton) and eventually came out 7-2 winners.
Victories for new teams
Both the new teams to the league started off with victories. George Doors (George st marybourne) beat the King Arms Ladies 7-2 in another match that was much closer than the result. Betty Belshaw (Ladies), last year’s Ladies KO winner, picked up both the home teams points winning her singles and doubles with Caroline Ford. The 2nd new team Shots in The Hart (White Hart) won 6-3 against the Kings Arms Missfits. This is the first time the White Hart has had a team for 9 years mainly due to the fact that there has been no pool table in there during this time.
This week, 17th Oct, sees the Prince Reunion playing there opening game against the Hairy Potters, George Doors v WSSC,Old House v Kings Ladies and Kings Missfits v Southampton Arms.
