George Doors v Prince Reunion

The Prince team took control of the early games taking a 3-1 lead with only landlord Ricky Jepson winning for the George. The 5th game saw the 2 captains and current form players for each team clash with Jason Davis (George) coming out on top of Luke Stickland (Prince). Stuart Hindmarsh (Prince) won the last singles to give them a 4-2 lead. The 1st 2 pairs matches went to the George taking the match into a deciding game. The Prince captain and Joe Cowmeadow, in his only game of the night, stepped up to win the match and take the Prince into the semi finals.

Hairy Potter and the Half Cut Prince v Kings Arms Ladies

Previous encounters between these two teams have included them dressing up as Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus & Elves while more recently the men dressed as women and the girls dressed as the actual male players! There was no fancy dress in this cup match but it was certainly no less fun. The Potters took a 4-2 lead in the singles with victories from the Ladies coming from captain Ali Freeborough who beat Kevin Birks (only his 2nd loss this season) and Betty Belshaw beating Danny McDonald who has returned to pool this year after a 4 year break. The Potters also took 2 of the 3 pairs games to win a close match 6-3 with Potters captain John Wright literally eating his words of an earlier prediction of an easy victory.

Southampton Arms v Old House at Home

The race to 5 points was over before the singles had finished with the last years cup winners Southampton Arms taking an uncatchable 5-0 lead including another win for Chris Newman, one of only 3 players in the league to have won every game and played in every match for their team. There was some joy for the Old House when Daryl Taylor won the 6th game of the night. The Arms were strong again in the pairs and when Captain John Francis and landlord Phil Cockroft took the final game it completed a pairs whitewash.

WSSC v Kings Missfits

Last years cup runners up from the sports and social club (WSSC) took a 3-1 lead after losing the opening game. Josh Harper (Missfits), who has played in and won in all 6 of his teams matches this year, got one back when beating Bob Banning (WSSC), who was 70 years old 2 weeks ago and a winner of many team and individual trophies. WSSC came back to form though winning 2 of the next 3 games to win the match.
