Walkers are Welcome volunteers braved the cold, damp weather earlier this week and began the work to replace the five old stiles on the path from Bere Hill to the Harroway, with swing shut gates.
Two of the gates are now in, with the other three scheduled for January. When the work is completed, this will provide a 4.5 mile ‘stile free’ circular walk from the town centre and improved access on to the trails that head up to the Portway and Wayfarers long distance paths on the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
These improvements were made possible with the help of a grant from the HCC Rural Communities Scheme, together with support from Whitchurch Town Council.
If you would like to volunteer to help with our footpath clearance, maintenance or Spring litter picking, then please email: firstname.lastname@example.org or register your interest at the Gill Nethercott Centre and we will be in touch.
