How good are your carrots, beetroot and chrysanthemums? How well-looked after is your vegetable patch? Can your turnips roar past the opposition to take the chequered flag or will they limp into the pits like overcooked cabbage?
A competition announced for local allotment holders with the first prize to be sponsored by former World Champion racing driver Jody Scheckter who now runs the highly esteemed Laverstoke Park Farm.The Town Council is introducing the annual competition for its allotment holders to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Year and all those on their Winchester Road site will be eligible to take part.
Judging is to take place in late July with an awards ceremony shortly after, and an engraved shield being held by the winner.
The formal launch of the competition will take place at a meeting of Whitchurch Town Council allotment holders, to be held in the Town Hall on Tuesday 13th March, 7.00pm – 9.00pm
This meeting will also cover a number of other issues ranging from security to plant/seed swaps, and there may be discussion on a possible Allotment Association.
All are welcome, not just current allotment holders.
