Some brilliant work by volunteer helpers has saved many of the town’s elderly an expensive trip to Andover or Basingstoke. Local residents Lynn Parnell and Christine Brown arranged photo sessions at the Gill Nethercott Centre to provide passport-type photos for the new Travel Pass.
Over 40 people took advantage of the free service, carried out at the same time as the well-attended Country Market. Once printed Christine will be personally delivering many of the photos while Cathy at the Town Hall has kindly offered to make the others available on Tuesday morning between 9.30 and 11.30am.
The new pass is to be available from 1st April when Hampshire County Council takes on the scheme that replaces the previous Travel Tokens.
The sessions were introduced followed discussion on the travel concession subject on the town’s Whitchurch Forums, which brought the volunteers together.
In addition £60 was raised for Headway, a brain injury charity.
