This, the town’s community website, is coming up to its 4th birthday and has gone from strength to strength since its launch in May 2010.

Community-owned and run
The site, which comes under the auspices of the local charity Whitchurch Association, usually achieves around 1000 hits per day, often more, covering news, events, and local activities. All content is provided by local contributors and its volunteer website team. Unlike many other sites it is wholly community-owned and anyone can add their own content.

Upgrades this week
It is requiring some changes and upgrades which are to take place over the coming months, with the first taking place this Friday (13th December). For a short time on Friday it will not be able to show new events or news while the work is undertaken. There may also be a few periods when the site is temporarily unavailable.
The town’s FACEBOOK and TWITTER accounts will not be affected.

More user-friendly
The first changes include an upgrade to the software that drives the site with the aim of making it much more user-friendly for the Contributors. Other changes will follow including to content, although for now the established look will remain.

I have only just realized that this site is paid for by charity or self funded. Well done, it is the one I use for whitchurch news/events. It seems daft to me to have so many sites for a small town. I can see that the council want their own for official stuff, but their new site crashes IE8 on my old windows XP laptop. The site has a good look and ‘feel’ to it. Keep up the good work
