Annual Meeting – held online
It was all change at the Whitchurch Town Council on Monday (18th May) as it held its Annual Meeting which sets the Chairmen and Committees for the coming 2020/21 administrative year.
Held online due to the Covid-19 virus emergency, Councillors met remotely being linked using video conferencing.
The Town Council consists of 12 elected local representatives who stand for a four year term. It has a range of local responsibilities including the Cemetery, the Harry Gilbert Allotments in Winchester Road, the Recreation areas at Alliston Way and Kingsley Park, and as a statutory consult on planning applications. It also deals with other authorities on a wide range of matters ranging from street lighting to footpaths. In addition Councillors are all Trustees for the Whitchurch Town Hall Trust.
Chairman and Mayor elected
New Chairman and Mayor for the coming year is Cllr Andy Klemz who held the deputy position for the last twelve months and replaces Cllr Fiona Nicholson. Deputy is now Cllr Tracy Woodruffe.
Councillors decided that the current structure should continue with a Development, a Leisure & Environment and a Resources & Policy Committee. Members were appointed to the Committees as well as to positions on other bodies.
While there is no election this year there has been one change as Cllr Claire Isbester announced her decision to step down from the Town Council as from the end of the meeting.

The next full Town Council Meeting has been set for Monday 1st June 2020 at 7.30pm.
