Four top professional acts came to Whitchurch when a night of music, magic, and laughter filled the Whitchurch Social Club.

Compere, Adger Brown

With Adger Brown compering the evening with his special brand of dry humour – “Just look at the quality in those raffle prizes” – the whole evening was a tribute to the organisers.

Singer, Paul Kaye

Paul Kaye entertained with a variety of songs from musicals and shows, including a special tribute to Neil Sedaka. His powerful renditions of some old favourites had the enthusiatic audience joining in.

Mike Cassidy soon had the packed room in fits of laughter with his magic and comedy “I’ve never done an act in a laundry before” as he looked up at the football shirts hanging around the Club’s walls.

Comedian/Magician, Mike Cassidy

His sleight of hand in smashing up one of the audience’s watches had heads shaking with disbelief, and just where did those oranges come from in the cups routine?

Comedian, Stewart Masters

The break, and entertaining raffle, was followed by Stewart Masters, an established club-style stand up comedian from the west-country, who himself was amused by learning that Whitchurch was the smallest town in England without traffic lights, and as a ‘town’ had a Mayoress – “Really? Is she here” and the jokes flowed and flowed.

The evening was closed off by the return of Paul Kaye as dancing took to the floor, while very popular Adger vowed he would again return, “once he had written some new material”.

It was a superb night. Whitchurch is lucky to have such a venue for entertainment.
