With an increase in traffic through Whitchurch over the weekend due to the CarFest being held at Laverstoke Park Farm, there was always the risk of problems in the town.
And that was the case this evening, but who would have guessed it would be a Top Gear vehicle that found the turning too difficult in the Town’s Square.
The police were called out shortly before 10pm as other traffic was forced to a standstill by a name more associated with speed! However disruption was fairly minimal and the road was soon cleared as PC Paula directed the traffic.
As one witness said on the town’s Facebook page “Top Gear stopped by in Whitchurch, we drove past but saw no Jeremy Clarkson – Lame”
CarFest is an event being run by Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans who has teamed up with Jody Scheckter to use Laverstoke Park Farm near Overton. 15,000 visitors are expected to the event which will see a range of car-related activities from hill climbs to auctions, and music from top bands such as The Feeling, Razorlight and Texas.
The event will also be raising funds for BBC Children in Need.
Traffic in the area is expected to be higher than usual on the B3400, A34 and A303 and there will be restrictions in place on the C29 south of Overton to the A303.
Drivers of large vehicles with low clearance should note that there is a sharp turn required to enter London Road just after the roundabout in Whitchurch and that the hump bridge further along, in Freefolk, may also be difficult to get up and over, too. CarFest has other advised access routes.
All tickets sold
Note that the event is a sell-out and the organisers have posted on their website:
