There is a wealth of top quality films being shown at the Gill Nethercott Centre’s ‘Whitchurch Cinema’ which is attracting a very strong following for its choice of films. Using the top-quality AV equipment the community run cinema has been going from strength to strength with films being selected by the users themselves.

April sees three major blockbusters at the Gill Nethercott Centre.

These kick off with a school holiday special Family Matinee screening of Dreamwork’s action-comedy film Puss in Boots, from the creators of Shrek. The entertaining show on Friday 13th April is the story of events leading to the sword-fighting cat’s meeting with Shrek and his friends.

This is followed on Sunday 22nd April with an afternoon showing of the spectacular and moving film Warhorse, based on the book by Michael Morpurgo and directed by Steven Spielberg. This epic war adaptation features strong performances by Jeremy Irvine, Emma Watson and David Thewlis.

Final film of the month at the GNC is a first for Whitchurch with a screening of the award winning romantic comedy The Artist. The film, being shown on Thursday 26th April is the winner of three Golden Globes, seven BAFTAs, and five Academy Awards including 2012 Best Motion Picture of the Year. It features the relationship of an older silent movies star with a younger actress at the time silent movies were being replaced by ‘talkies’.

The film company Moviola – Your Rural Cinema – also shows monthly films in the Parish Hall, now refurbished and sporting new more comfortable seating.

Moviola was formed 10 years ago to bring top quality films to rural communities and have recently shown The Help and The Debt at the Parish Hall.

April’s film is the celebrated The Iron lady, winner of two Academy Awards and featuring an inspiring performance by Meryl Streep.
