Sky watchers in Whitchurch were lucky to witness a rare weather phenomenon on Tuesday afternoon. Richard Long captured a funnel cloud on his mobile phone over the town.

A funnel cloud of rapidly circulating wind can often be a precursor to a tornado if the base reaches the ground, and it can then create numerous hazards. Indeed, advice is often to take cover straight away! In the UK they can lead to shed roofs being lost, trees damaged or tiles ripped from roofs.

Such clouds are of particular interest to weather enthusiasts given their rarity and the effects they can lead to.

We particularly thank Ben van Rensburg for supplying us with the story and video link, and to Richard for capturing the moment.
BUT
Please be warned, there is some swearing towards the end of the video, due to the excitement.
