Whitchurch has just played host to one of two Royal locomotives, as Class 67 loco no.67005 (Queen’s Messenger) flew through the town’s station at 80mph.

Sadly there was no Royal personage on board as it hauled a train of impressive pullman carriages on an Orient Express excursion.

The Class 67 locomotives are a class of Bo’Bo’ diesel electric mainline locomotives and two were allocated to Royal Train duty in 2003.
These were built for EWS (the English, Welsh and Scottish Railway) at Meinfesa in Valencia, Spain, between 1999 and 2000.

Rail enthusiasts call this class of locos ‘skips’.

Thank you to Kevin, from our town’s ticket office, for the information and picture.
