Andover Pool Association Team Cup Final Reports

The Prince Regent A team have done very well reaching the Team A cup final this year while playing in the second tier of the league but found the cup final against Queen Charlotte, who have been one of the top teams in the Premier league for several years, too big of a task to win. In fact the Charlotte team, comprising of former England players and numerous county players, barely missed a shot with none of them taking more than 3 visits to win their games and The Prince team were unable to win a single game losing 5-0. Still congratulations to the effort of the Prince players on the night; Alan Phippen (captain), Richard Sopp (who watched his opponent clear up without getting a go himself), Charles Wightman, Kevin Birks (almost cleared up off the break, almost!) and Dirk Marsh. Also well done to John Wright, Nelson Wells, Matt Dowling and Bill Blythe who didn’t get to play but helped the team reach the final.

The Prince Regent B team fared much better in the Team B cup final, which is for teams competing in division 3,4 and 5. They achieved the double with a 5-1 win after already securing the division 5 title last week. Their opponents, Merlin Masters, finished 2nd in division 3 but found that their loftier place in the league didn’t mean anything on the night. Wins for Darren Robinson (captain), Josh Harper, Ross Stickland, Simon Grove and Luke Stickland secured the win with Mark Walters putting in a good performance being the unlucky player on the night. Players not playing on the night, Alan Strong and Chris Mathews showed some great vocal support. A great first season for the team in the Andover league.

The two matches were then followed by a few beers and then some more beers.
