Hundreds of local people flocked to the Silk Mill to enjoy the first community picnic organised by the Friends of the Mill.
Rugs were laid out on the lawns and hampers enjoyed as the sun shone through the trees and a relaxed atmosphere took hold.
Games and competitions on the front lawn were popular while music and chat flowed, and Pimms enjoyed.
Andover Museum Loft Singers set the scene as their tuneful harmonies drifted across the river, while Gill and Tom performed on the front garden.
Grizzly Folk played their laid back style of music, ideal for the tranquil setting, while traditional ales from local Longdog Brewery including Golden Poacher and Bunny Chaser were supped by the riverbank.
Theatre tickets, health treatments, drinks and even vegetables were all exciting prizes in the raffle, raising funds for supporting the future of the Mill, as did the innovative Water Wheel Roulette and the popular Mystery Bottle Stall.
Teas, Coffees and Cakes were in the tearoom, and the Mill was open for all to visit the machinery.
Under the present stewardship, the Mill would seem to be in safe hands following its turbulent past, and the future looks rosy.
The event was a precursor to a Country Show being held throughout the day on Saturday 22nd September, so mark that date now.
