Gerry and a special cake on his retirement.

Thank you to our Street Cleaner

Well known in Whitchurch
After 14 years of service to the town, Gerry Keohane has finally decided to hang up his litter picker and retire from his job as Street Cleaner. Gerry will be well known to many people in Whitchurch having lived here for over 40 years and he has been a familiar sight around the town in his hi-viz jacket emptying the bins and clearing litter.

After “retiring” from Albrights, Gerry immediately answered an advertisement for a part-time Street Cleaner and has been working for Whitchurch Town Council ever since. The Town Council showed their appreciation to him with a small presentation on his last day.

A true gentleman
His dedication to keeping the streets clean will be sorely missed – a true gentleman who takes great pride in what he does, who would work beyond his working hours if he heard of any problem which had been missed, and who was always out early on New Year’s Day to help to clear the Town Centre.
Thank you Gerry for doing a job which many would not wish to do.

All street cleaning functions will now be dealt with entirely by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
If you are aware of any problems – bins not emptied, or areas needing cleaning please let the Borough know. The team working in this area are very responsive and keen to keep the area clean and tidy.
You can contact BDBC via their website, BASINGSTOKE & DEANE BOROUGH COUNCIL or by phone on 01256 844844.
