While much of the comment and publicity locally has been focussed on the planning application for the Montessori Nursery to move to the Knowlings, an application for another nursery has been underway and this week was APPROVED by Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council.

Finkley Nursery logoWhitchurch Town Council submitted ‘No Objection’ and a number of local residents wrote in letters of support.

The proposal made by Whitchurch Sports and SocialTrust was to allow Finkley Down Nursery and Pre-School to run a 30 place (max) nursery at the Longmeadow Sports and Social Club.

The application stated that the Nursery would be a ”pack away nursery” and “utilise areas of the club that are currently not used between the hours 7am – 7pm weekdays”.

It also states that it would be a “remote nursery” and…

“In Whitchurch this means we would not only be able to use the outside space available with the nursery but take the children to places such as the Millennium Meadows and local recreation grounds, and make the most of country walks and so much more offered locally.

By opening a new nursery in Whitchurch it will mean more children will be able to visit Finkley Down Farm during their time at the nursery as we propose to transport children to the farm weekly if not daily. This opens a number of learning and fun experiences for the children. Offering a unique setting something not yet offered in Whitchurch”.
