Following last winter’s severe snow, and the representations made by our local Councillors, Whitchurch is to receive a number of new salt bins. Councillor Keith Watts has passed us the good news that town will be having five new bins.

Hampshire County Council has also confirmed that 210 new bins will be put across Basingstoke & Deane’s area by November.

Last winter many were caught out by the heavy snows and in several places it was left to local residents to clear pathways and sometimes even roads.
In Whitchurch this was spearheaded by last year’s Mayor, Vince Bradbury, who with a team of willing volunteers obtained a trailer load of grit to clear some of the worst affected areas on pathways around the schools, elderly people’s homes and throughout the town centre.

New bins are to be installed at the following locations:

Alliston Way
Caesar’s Way
Oakland Road
Skylark Rise
Bell Street car park (for use in the Square)

Should similar weather be experienced again the area will now be better prepared.
