The Veg Patch opens in the shop next to the Blue Rickshaw Chinese Take-Away

Now, there are even fewer excuses for not eating your fruits and vegetables!

A new greengrocers opened on Friday, 8th April 2011, in the location of the former betting shop, opposite the Parish Hall — it’s called ‘The Veg Patch‘.

Many local fruits and vegetables are on sale.

Neville, the treasurer of the Whitchurch Festival committee, raised some of the initial capital to get this new venture started in a novel way: tickets were sold to friends and supporters for a chance at a prize. The draw will take place at an ‘official opening’ on Friday 15th April.

From the 13th of April, the Internet version of the shop will also be open, where you can order online!

The Veg Patch joins a growing number of Whitchurch places for greens shopping: There is the traditional country market on Fridays at the Gill Nethercott Centre, a market on Saturday mornings at the Parish Hall, national chains Tesco and Co-Op, and the online Whitchurch Eco-Shop (reopening soon under new management).
