Whitchurch Silk Mill, as part of its drive to increase visitors, has installed 5 new cycle rack hoops within its front parking area.
The Silk Mill is a great place for cycling visitors from the surrounding area as well as for those on holiday from places afar. Interest in cycling has increased in recent years with more people realising the benefits for local transport, health, environmental efficiency. and just plain fun!
Whitchurch also has cycle parking at other places, including the station, in the Square and at the Gill Nethercott Centre, although a major benefit of a bicycle is that it can almost be parked anywhere!
It was excellent to see racks recently added into the Park View Play Area, and part of the railway station car park planning application includes a promise for secure cycle parking.
Meanwhile there are several other local cycling initiatives on the horizon ranging from cycle rides to routes to follow, while in September many cyclists from around the country may be stopping to stock up at local shops. There is a cycle-camping meet being held locally and Whitchurch has already been highlighted as a supplies stop!
