The ‘Big Lottery Fund’ has awarded £2,059 to Mulberry Mead for a dining and snooker table for the elderly residents.
The Peverel house manager said in a newsletter that “The money went towards buying a new mahogany snooker table, which also acts as a dining table (as the top cover is removable).”
Two residents at Mulberry Mead were singled out for their help in obtaining the grant: Mrs Iris Brown, treasurer of the residents’ association; and Mr Alan Mayhew, who is the residents’ association chair person.
Mulberry Mead is privately managed by The Peverel Group who collect monthly fees from owners or tenants of each of the flats. It is located behind the butcher shop near The Square.
Last month, the Whitchurch Town Council turned down a large grant request from the manager stating that one criteria for grant selection was whether the applying organisation was open to the whole Whitchurch community or not. The budget available this year for grants from the Town Council was £1500, across all successful applicants.
