Basingstoke and Deane CrestBasingstoke & Deane Elections
While neither of Whitchurch’s seats on Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council were up for election this year, the balance of ‘power’ at Basingstoke does affect the town.

With elections in 21 of the other Wards there have been changes.

Conservatives in control
The largest group on the Borough Council are the Conservatives who have 32 seats. Labour follow with 17 and the Liberal Democrats have 7, including the two Whitchurch Councillors.
There are also 4 Independent Councillors.

With Maria Miller taking the MP seat for Basingstoke in the General Election, the Borough is looking very ‘blue’.

Perhaps the most surprising change was that former Mayor long-standing Independent Councillor Martin Bierman who narrowly lost his seat in Chineham to the Conservatives.

Changes in Overton
Just along the road in Overton, Colin Phillimore took a seat for Labour from the Liberal Democrats, who were beaten into third.

Whitchurch has a Borough Councillor election next year when the seat presently held by Cllr Eric Dunlop will be on the ballot paper.
The other Whitchurch Borough Councillor is presently Cllr Keith Watts.
