Town Council Carved badge smOver 100 local residents packed into the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening for an Extraordinary meeting of the Town Council Development Committee.

It was standing room only as the Planning Application for a new Montessori Nursery and Forest School, on what is known as ‘The Knowlings Field’, was discussed.

Several local residents made detailed presentations on particular aspects including biodiversity, traffic, and local need. Many made comments on the loss of the open space as an amenity to the town and the effect of traffic as well as for the need for Nursery provision. The applicant Julia Lymbery and her representative from the architects gave reasons for the need to move from Testbourne and answered questions on the proposals for the site. Basingstoke Councillor Chloe Ashfield gave a perspective from the Borough level.

Town Councillors on the Committee then gave their views on the benefits or otherwise for the Nursery to be on The Knowlings Field before a vote was called.
BY A CLEAR MAJORITY, THE TOWN COUNCIL AGREED TO LODGE AN OBJECTION.

NOTE: Whitchurch Town Council is one of many consultees and the final decision will rest with Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council. A date for that decision has yet to be set.

Residents and other interested parties can still submit their comments on the application directly through the online planning site.
