Whitchurch Methodist Church, as part of their 200th Anniversary celebrations, held the Mayor’s Charity Concert, raising funds for St Thomas’s Lupus Trust where the Mayoress Sandra Jackman is a patient.
Basingstoke Salvation Army Band and Songsters provided an exciting and varied program under the direction of bandmaster Mr Ken Kilgour and songster leader Mr Alister Todd. During the concert there was a very moving vocal solo from local salvationist Mr Brian Sharp.
Father and son Don and Chris Richardson treated the audience to a note perfect cornet duet, who were challenged to count how many tunes were included in a medley played on the violin by bandmaster Mr Ken Kilgour.
The Mayoress guessed 40 – in fact no less than 41 were included in the solo piece that captured the hearts of those present.
During the interval two video clips telling something of the illness Lupus, and it’s effect on people were shown.
After the interval, during which refreshments were served, over £400 was raised for St Thomas Lupus Trust to be used to further research into this chronic illness.
