Last night’s Community Groups Meeting at the White Hart, although lowly attended, heard an interesting presentation by Martin Watson about the work of the Whitchurch Welfare Trust.

Helping the people of Whitchurch
Martin explained how the Trust administers funds from historical bequests left to help the people of Whitchurch. They work closely with other organisations, such as schools, churches, the Youth Club and the Citizens Advice Bureau to indentify those who may need assistance. In addition they help those setting out on education or training courses.
It was an interesting explanation and the trust is keen to make themselves more widely known.

Importance of the Town Plan
The meeting also heard how community groups can get involved in the Town Plan, and the importance of doing so should they wish to apply for funding or have ideas for future needs. The Plan will set the structure for how Whitchurch develops over the next 5 to 10 years. A meeting is being held in the Town hall on 12th July to which all are encouraged to attend, starting at 7.30pm.

IT equipment for all
Groups were also asked to submit their suggestions for equipment to make up new Community IT Library. Organisations (and individuals) are asked to make their ideas known by 5th July to The Library will consist of a variety of equipment ranging from projectors to camcorders and laptops which can be used to assist in local activities and projects.

Volunteer requests
One of the functions of the group is to share both experiences and needs, with a regular issue being the requirement for more volunteers to help out with activities. One such group that needs help is the Youth Club. Despite the fantastic success of the Club there is still a need for adult support, whether it be just for a few hours on a Club evening, to helping with their wide range of activities.
If anyone can help please contact the club via 07769 900613 or

Planning ahead
As always at these meetings those present exchanged dates of events in order to prevent clashes.
As befits a lively town like Whitchurch there are a whole range of exciting events already planned for the year, which appear on the town website calendar.

The next meeting is likely to be held after the Summer holidays and will be announced here.
