Town Councillors heard that the resident believes the lights should be switched off as the area is only for children aged 12 and under. and it would also discourage anti-social behaviour.
The Footpath would not be affected.
Councillors heard from the Clerk that the Police had been contacted and advised there was no clear evidence either way of the effect of the lights on anti-social behaviour and that few incidents had been reported.
During the discussion some Councillors had sympathy with the views but it was also noted that people walk across the park during the winter evenings to and from Testbourne.
As a result Councillors decided to ask local opinion before making a final decision at the full Town Council meeting in September.
The Town Council would like to know residents’ views regarding the lighting in the Play area section of the Park (the path lighting is not affected)

The questions are:
Should the lights on Alliston Way Play Area be ON or OFF?
a) ON (as now – all night but dimmed later)
b) OFF ALL THE TIME
c) OFF FROM A SPECIFIED TIME, eg 9.00pm)
d) I HAVE NO VIEW
If they were to be switched off at time later into the evening, at what time should this be?
