Concern is growing over the way that Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Fields in Trust have been acting over Daniel Park.

The Park came top in the Borough; even top in the UK in the scheme to dedicate Open Spaces in perpetuity in celebration of Her Majesty’s 60 year reign.

It seems that dealings went on to allocate a large area of land behind Neuvic Way and Wheeler Close for a 20-metre wide highway after the vote had been finalised.
These were carried out without even our Borough Councillors’ knowledge.

In a post to this website Cllr Watts said:

“Fields in Trust” have apparently agreed to this behind the backs of elected councillors and the people who campaigned for this to be preserved for ever for recreation as a Queen Elizabeth II Field.

No responses*
The Chief Executive of Fields in Trust has been requested by the website for a comment but as yet has not replied. Neither have the Basingstoke and Deane officials named in the report.

Council Officers are scheduled to put their proposals for approval to the Economic Prosperity and Performance Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

This is being held at:

6.30pm Tuesday March 6th
Deanes Building, Basingstoke Civic Office
Ironically the Item is no.13 on the Agenda.

Local residents who care about this issue are being encouraged to attend and it is possible that a carpool may be arranged for those requiring a lift to Basingstoke.
Details will be posted here when known.
