Professional actor, ex-Testbourne student and WADS alumnus Ben Riddle held the last of his short series of acting master class workshops in Whitchurch last night. Ben – a graduate of Guildford School of Acting and who had just finished a tour of Dennis Potter’s Blue Remembered Hills – worked with participants to look at different ways of interpreting the text of Terry Pratchett’s Carpe Jugulum, the play WADS has chosen as its next production in October.

Around 30 people took part over the two weeks, with the participants comprising members of WADS as well as newcomers. The group explored a range of acting techniques as well as different moods, and were shown how to focus their characters. And while they were learning serious techniques, clearly a lot of fun was also had by all. “It’s amazing how much laughing you can do at the same time as working,” as one of the participants said.

WADS is still on the lookout for men to take part in Carpe Jugulum as well as for people to help with the technical aspects. Call 892514 for more details, email WADS at info@wadsweb.org.uk, look for wadsweb on Facebook at facebook.com/WADSweb, or visit wadsweb.org.uk
