With the present superb weather, Sunday’s Fresh Air Miles cycle ride was an ideal opportunity to enjoy the surrounding countryside and to learn a little more about cycle routes too. A route was arranged from Whitchurch to meet up with another group from Andover, both using the picturesque Bourne Valley as a focus.

Ten cyclists from Whitchurch, of all ages and including families and children, set off from the Gill Nethercott Centre for the gentlest of cycle jaunts, making the most of the sunshine.

At Longparish Village Hall the Whitchurch group joined with over thirty riders on all manner of cycles, from tandems and tag alongs to town bikes and small wheelers who had met to enjoy some superb tea and cakes. Then followed a short talk on the benefits of cycle-route planning by Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity.
Also available were route maps, and local area information.

All who attended the Hall venue logged their miles and have the chance of winning a Specialized Hotrock bike!
The ride was held in conjunction with Sustrans – a leading UK charity enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day.
Early plans are underway to extend routes and activities into the Whitchurch area.
