Fracking has been making national headlines especially with the demonstrations at Balcombe in West Sussex.

It is a technique for the extraction gas and oil from shale rock and the subject of much controversy.

This evening (Monday 2nd September) the full Whitchurch Town Council meets in the Town Hall after the summer break and Cllr Claire Isbester has tabled an agenda point under ‘Environment’:

7 (i) Item for Discussion – Fracking – Cllr C. Isbester.

Hampshire County Council is the Minerals Planning authority responsible for its control and has been issuing licences for the activity in various locations throughout the county. It is expected that the Hampshire County Councillor for Whitchurch and Clere, Tom Thacker, will be in attendance.

The meeting commences at 7.30pm and the public are able to attend.

Note: If you want to speak, you need to let the clerk know ahead of the meeting, otherwise it is up to the discretion of chair (the Mayor, Cllr John Clark.
