Faster Broadband Approaching Slowly…

added Friday, April 20th, 2012

The town website has received this statement from BT regarding the deployment of the fibre optic cable and cabinets for the faster broadband service (emphasis added by us):

There has been a slippage of a couple of weeks since [BT] last wrote to you on 20th March, primarily due to the works on the long spine feeding Whitchurch [from Andover's telephone exchange]. With a major civil engineering programme like this it is difficult to be precise with dates.

The latest update is that the cabinets on London Street, Winchester Road, Church Street and Fairfield are stood and we hope they will be live during May.

The cabinets on Andover Rd, Freefolk Priors and Litchfield Road involve network rearrangement and are due to go live at the end of June.

[BT] will complete the FTTC [fibre to the cabinet] conversions before we deliver FTTP [fibre to the premises] and Exchange only lines, and we are on track to deliver both for the end of July.

Residents of Whitchurch won the faster broadband competition in January 2011. Roll-out was initially to be in January 2012.

In related news, the Whitchurch Faster Broadband campaign team were asked to take part in a PR promo exercise two days ago, on Wednesday 18 April 2012. The team pulled out due to the failure of BT to keep to their promised delivery date – and it was cancelled.

The previous BT statement about delivery dates was reported by us HERE. The campaign page has been archived HERE.

    am I surprised, no!
    am I disappointed, yes!

Well done the campaigners for pulling out, why keep ‘our’ side of the deal when there was clearly no intention to keep the jan deadline (re story of not contacting BDCC until mid jan)

16 months after winning and we still are waiting …what a total joke

the fibre link to andover is always the excuse

if we had been an exchange of half the size and in cornwall we would of had it by now.. it’s amazing that bt have had no prob installing fibre links in cornwall….money talks
